What Are You Staring At?
Barbara Pollack
October 29 – November 16, 1991
Coyly titled “What Are Your Staring At?,” this exhibition is acutely aware that it is being watched. Barbara Pollack intentionally dresses her artwork in the guise of traditional assemblages. The works play directly into the inherent voyeurism of art appreciation—it winks back at the viewers’ gaze and implicates them through their participation. Pollacl dares the viewer to define the difference between lust and love, between pornography and art; this challenge is at the heart of the question “What are you staring at?”
