Figments of Ordinary Life
Betsy Alwin
October 11 - November 4, 2006
Through their reconstructive energies the works in Figments of the Ordinary Life offer the possibility of reconciling the vernacular with the extraordinary. When assembling this body of work Alwin re-harvested commonplace materials, specifically those of the domestic nature. In each piece, the materials were chosen for their properties as possible generators, catalysts and conductors. By combination and modification, the values of household items are reexamined as the objects are made to perform new functions.
