Nail Polish Paintings
Alex Carmel
January 27 - February 14, 1998
Using unusual materials, such as nail polish, fabric paint, and nail polish rumor, Carmel's experimental work wittily melds abstract painting, mosa c patterning, and body art. After building up the lines of distorted grids with thickly applied fabric paint, each interior area is colored with nail color. When heated with a blow torch, the colors transform and the gridlines bubble, further varying the topography of the highly textured canvases.
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 29, 6-9pm
