The twenty-three works by ten artists in A.I.R. Gallery’s first exhibition of the 2003-2004 season use different media and styles to explore the human condition. There is a collective conversation throughout the exhibition in which one work speaks, aesthetically or conceptually, as other works respond, to make another observation. The conversation, light and humorous at times, deadly serious and melancholy at others, reveals the two essential components of the human condition: the self, and the self in relationship to others. In this way condition:human plays with the meaning of the word condition, as a state of being and a relational concept.
