Artist Statement
Alice Hope's @the_can_tab is an ongoing project, reckoning the used can tab's fluctuating value and meaning in continually changing contexts. Each tab represents an individual narrative of production, consumption, collection, and donation, making the project an inadvertently global collaboration.
Her work is meant to be experienced in situ. While context rarefies the meaning of her work, her work rarefies context. Object in place points to the subjectivity of value; Alice Hope reframes tab's commodified and cultural status.
