Paintings: The River
Ursula Schneider

December 4, 2008 – January 4, 2009

Curated by Lesley Wright

Ursula Schneider’s paintings are based on observations of the Hudson River. With a keen eye for formal concerns, the artist translates water and reflections into intercepting bands of color, basing each painting on a specific time and season. With her unique process of painting pure pigments and urethane on flexible panels of nylon laminated with urethane, the artist brings movement and depth to each scene. The architecture of the Indian Point Nuclear Plant and intrusion of industrial barges on the river’s serenity are common subjects in these meditations on the interactions between man and nature.
