This is the fourth in a series of group exhibitions of work by women artists who are Affiliate Members of A.I.R. Gallery, the first women's cooperative gallery in Manhattan's Soho area. A group of five artists from outside the metropolitan area is invited each season to join the Gallery as Affiliate Members, sharing in the responsibilities and opportunities of the Gallery. These women are chosen on the basis of artistic merit with no regard to stylistic or ideological conformity. Thus, the annual exhibitions tend to represent a survey of what is being done outside of New York. This year's group includes artists from as far west as Denver and as far north as Quebec City.
