Floor Drawing Performance & Music
Thursday, July 6th, 6-8pm
In front of A.I.R.
Artist: Jayanthi Moorthy
In this performance, Moorthy will draw with sand and spices on the street.
Moorthy's practice of drawing on the floor is inspired by a Hindu religious practice where patterns are drawn outside homes and in place of worship and are commonly referred to as 'painted prayers.' To Moorthy, drawing on the floor is a practice that is also a form of meditation, a test of physical endurance and mental clarity, an aesthetic tribute to divinity, and an acknowledgment of the impermanence of all things material.
