Opening Reception: Friday, November 15, 6-8pm
First Language is an exhibition by A.I.R. Alumni Artist Member Lauren Simkin Berke. This exhibition charts Berke's personal and professional exploration of the narrative possibilities of images through doodles, rough sketches, and published illustrations. Many of the drawings were originally created as illustrations for The New York Times, Paris Review Editions, Out, The Advocate, The Boston Globe, and Smithsonian Magazine, covering a diverse array of subjects, among them information technology, gun violence, Shakespeare, lesbian hairstyles, World War II, and important women often left out of the story of history.
