ANN SCHAUMBURGER Ann Schaumburger

April 29 – May 24, 2003

In this new series of paintings on wood and paper, Schaumburger uses complimentary colors of unmixed acrylic paint to build her patterns on a grid. This consistent grid allows her to maintain the casual attitude of the works on paper in the large-scale works on wood. Mario Naves, in his essay about this series writes, “taking [the grid’s] uniformity and stability as a given, Schaumburger is free to explore the expressive capabilities of color, light and surface.”
