Louise McCagg

October 20- November 7, 1998

Louise McCagg's recent work is a matter of compression and distillation, presenting her affection for human experience "like a broth cooked down to its essence." The images come directly from life, begun from an initial mold cast directly on the subject's face, and then progressively reduced and recast until they reach some kind of art-mythic proportion. At this point, they are cast for the final time--surprisingly enough for an artist who for two decades operated out of a private foundry--in paper.
