MADE OUT OF THE ORDINARY features mundane objects and events transformed into curious, unexpected, whimsical, and even haunting works of art. This exhibition includes 20 national members of A.I.R. Gallery. The artists work in a variety of media, from painting and drawing to photography, textile, and sculpture. Their subjects range from fairy tales and sunshine to sexuality and death. Despite the diversity in materials and subjects, each of these women looks to the everyday as her starting point and creates something challenging, wondrous, and extraordinary out of the ordinary. Contrariwise, exhilarating and horrifying experiences can become mundane when repeated too often or examined too closely. Common acts, common materials, and common practices appear in this exhibition of uncommon insight.
