Join us on Sunday, March 10 at 4pm for a closing event with The Faraway Nearby artist Seung-Min Lee.

Along with the exhibition’s curator, Jiyeon Paik, Lee will give visitors the opportunity to take home the remaining tote bags from her installation created with Chang Sujung. Tote bags branded with the names and logos of biennials, exclusive art fairs, or blue chip galleries proliferate within the art world, and are often carried by artists and curators to demonstrate a kind of social status—a practice that Chang and Lee compare to the popularity of the Korean black market counterfeit bag industry, which caters to more mundane social strivers. This project blends the two artists’ mutual interest in imbuing the objects of everyday life with a sly and subtle critique of the societies that produce them.
