MARCIA NEBLETT

Artist Statement
My drawings, prints and artist books play homage to masterful printmaking of the past while being of their own time and sensibility. My works are often influenced by a Medieval and Renaissance tradition of materials and ideologies, but remain contemporary in their sense of exaggeration and distortion.  Individual characters often symbolize various virtues and vices, calling to mind the highly didactic painting of Hieronomous Bosch.  My Hybrids Series express different meanings. focusing on the duality of the human mind – revealing some of the more secretive and amusing aspects of the human personality. In some works like, “Hybrid Bird with Four Flying Arms over Egg City” and“Hybrid Rabbit with Moose, Iguana, Owl and Four Fish in Tropical Rain Forrest” the inspiration is the human condition as exemplified between human, beast and fantasy. My subjects include fish, birds, moose, women, men, adolescent girls and babies.
