TC-1
Aya Rodriguez-Izumi

GALLERY III

June 28 - July 29, 2018
Opening Reception, June 28, 2018, 6-8pm

Fellowship artist Aya Rodriguez-Izumi's solo show, TC-1, is a colorful and almost mythical re-telling of the artists ancestral history on the island of Okinawa through work that has been heavily inspired by her family's rich Okinawan and Puerto Rican/Cuban heritage.

Large mylar and woodblock creations are accompanied by video and audio works sourced from a 2017 visit to Okinawa, and informed by ceremonies carried out with the family. The multidimensional aspects of her show allows Rodriguez-Izumi to explore familial and personal histories in conjunction with an event that greatly changed not only her family, but the world as well: The Battle of Okinawa.
