A.I.R. Gallery presents Kathleen Schneider’s first solo exhibition in New York of sculpture. Made of wood and marble, the sculptures are potent manifestations of abstraction. However, there are often imitations of ancient and familiar forms: human and animal figures, statuettes, and domestic objects—vessels, implements, and furniture. The formalism of this body of work refers to the traditions of classical and modernist sculpture, but with wry, quirky, counter-balancing postures.
