Cafe Consciousness


Welcome to Cafe Consciousness!

Cafe Consciousness will aim to create an environment for learning and sharing within A.I.R. gallery’s art exhibit.  It will comprise of a series of art educational programs that will open up conversations on art, feminism, and life.  The programs will include Panel Discussions, Artist Talks, Workshops (for teens and women) and Family Guided Tours. Most of these events will require RSVPs (jm@jaymoorthy.com) and will close once it reaches a maximum number of participants. The below events will run from Dec 21, 2016 - Jan 11, 2017.


WORKSHOPS
Wednesdays from 3-5pm.

This workshop is free and will create a space for artistically inclined adult women to come together around shared goals of art making, exploration, experimentation, and community building. Workshop themes will range from spirituality to personal identity, the environment, and more. Please RSVP if you wish to partake in it. ART WORKSHOPS FOR TEENS

As part of A.I.R. Gallery's exhibit Cooperative Consciousness at the Kochi Biennale, we will be creating an environment for learning and sharing through a series of art educational programs that will open up conversations on art, feminism, and life. These workshops are free and will create a space for artistically inclined teens to come together around shared goals of art making, exploration, experimentation, and community building. ARTIST TALKS
Fridays from 5-7pm

Saturday, Jan 7 from 10:30-12pm

Every week participating A.I.R. artists will talk about their art practice and open dialogues with the audience on aspects of feminism related to gender, race, identity, environment, etc. The goal is to have a cross-cultural exchange of ideas and for everyone to learn together or simply share experiences. The event is open to everyone to participate. No RSVPs required but please try to be here by 5 mins before the event starts. 


PANEL DISCUSSION
Saturday, Jan 7 from 4-6pm

Women run societies and what can we learn from them? The panel will explore about the importance of matriarchies and imagined utopias of women run societies, as existed at some time in the distant past or could be re-created in a possible future, and how the definitions of gendered power themselves might have shifted in relation to varying social and historical contexts.
