ARTIST'S BIO
Elena Wen was born in Taiwan, raised in Costa Rica. She studied Illustration at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She was interested in drawing narratives, assembling them into hand-bound books, and producing those in limited editions. Her books are in private collections and archived in library collections of institutions such as San Francisco MOMA, Getty Research Institute, Stanford, and other universities. She still thinks about making art books, but these days her time and focus is mainly divided between commercial and personal animation. Nowadays her work take on the format of Quicktime movies. Very much inspired by drawing, her motion work is largely illustration driven in both execution and aesthetic. She was nominated one of the 20 NVA (New Visual Artists under 30) by Print Magazine. Her work has been featured in Stash and Smile Faucet DVD magazines, Billyburg Short Film Festival and the LA Shorts Fest, at Harvard Square through Lumen Eclipse in Boston, and The Great Wall of Oakland in California. She has exhibited at AIR Gallery in Brooklyn, Museo del Barrio in Harlem, participated in the Costa Rica Biennial in 2009 and 2011, followed by the Central America Biennial in Nicaragua in 2010, and in Panama in 2012.
