ARTIST'S BIO
Christine Gedeon was born in Aleppo, Syria and lives and works in New York City and Berlin.  Her installations using string and thread are concerned with breaking up the architectural space, while her works on canvas using a sewing machine as a drawing tool look at urban planning and mapping and how rebuilding affects the collective consciousness. Awards include a grant from the Dave Bown Projects, 2013, The Bronx Museum, Artist in the Marketplace program (AIM 30), 2010, and the A.I.R. Gallery NY, Fellowship in 2006. Solo and two-person shows include: A.I.R. Gallery, NY, Chashama, Harlem, CAS Arts Center, Livingston Manor, NY, And/Or Gallery, Dallas, TX. Selected group shows include: The Bronx Museum, The WYE, Berlin, Visual Arts Center of NJ, Field Projects, NY, The Arlington Museum, TX, and DIVA Fair Miami. Her work was featured in an article on female artists in Art in America in July 2007 and was reviewed in Hyperallergic, The Dallas Morning News, and The River Reporter in Livingston Manor.

Residencies include the The WYE, Berlin, where she created a long-term site-specific installation, and the Fundacion Valparaiso, Spain, both in 2012, and a 2-month residency on Governors Island, NY in 2011 through galleryELL.  She received a BA in Visual Arts and Art History at SUNY New Paltz in 1995.
