Florence Sillen’s recent oil paintings deal with the themes of order and revolt, defiance and absurdity. Through her use of purposefully “un-artful” marks, dissonant color, and an underlying geometry of structure, her paintings search out contradiction, ambiguity, and paradox, provoking a unique type of resolution and harmony.
