SUPPORT UNBROKEN BY BARS BY PARTICIPATING IN A JEWELRY DESIGN  WORKSHOP

JEWELRY DESIGN  WORKSHOP
Instructors: Liza and Katie Fuller
September 17, 4-6pm
$75 per participant

Join us at A.I.R. Gallery on September 17th at 4pm for a wire-wrapping jewelry workshop with Katie Fuller of Palomino Jewelry NY and curator of the upcoming exhibition Unbroken by Bars and her sister Liza, an interior and jewelry designer and illustrator.

Wire wrapping is one of the oldest techniques for making handmade jewelry. Jewelry is created using wire, beads, stones, and findings similar to wire (like head-pins) to make components. Wire components are then connected to one another using mechanical techniques using minimal tools. Because of this technique for wrapping wire around itself, this craft is called wire wrapping. Wire-wrapped jewelry can be delicate or bold, simple or complex, but it is a simple skill that will lead to endless possibilities

Participants can create necklaces and bracelets and leave with at least one finished piece. We’ll provide tools and materials. You bring your creativity!

Unbroken By Bars is a public art and storytelling project that brings the love previously incarcerated mothers of color share with their children out from behind the bars and into public space. An exhibition of the project with works by artist Jess X Snow will be on view at A.I.R. in November 2017.

Katie Fuller started Palomino Jewelry NY four years ago and incorporates wire wrapping into her pieces to accent the reclaimed leather scraps she uses as her base material. Since starting Palomino, Katie’s work has been published in magazines, received an award for sustainable design, shown in fashion presentations and on the  runway during a New Year’s fashion show. Her work will soon be published in a book put out by Style n’ Trashion, a British style blog that features environmentally sustainable design.

Liza Fuller is an experienced and educated interior designer and illustrator. Passionate about Jewelry design as a unique artistry. Became knowledgeable of the fundamentals of wire wrapping and gemology while employed at Me& Ro, and Henri Bendel. These experiences helped me to develop my own style of design incorporating vintage pieces, wire and gemstones.

“Art has no mistakes.”
